Job completed for Improving Drainage System: How We Sealed, Encapsulated, and Controlled Humidity in the Crawlspace

A homeowner contacted us regarding an existing partial drainage system in their crawlspace that had been installed by a previous contractor. While the current setup provided some level of water management, the homeowner wanted to improve its efficiency and functionality. Specifically, they requested the installation of a new sump pump basin equipped with a check valve to help prevent backflow and ensure proper water discharge. The goal was to enhance the reliability of the drainage system without a full overhaul, focusing on targeted improvements where needed.

To address the homeowner’s concerns and improve the effectiveness of their existing crawlspace drainage system, we installed a comprehensive humidity control solution. We began by fully encapsulating the crawlspace with a durable 20 mil vapor barrier, creating a strong moisture barrier across the ground and walls. To further seal the space, we closed off all vents and carefully sealed around HVAC lines to eliminate outside air intrusion. We then built and installed a new insulated crawlspace door to enhance energy efficiency and maintain the controlled environment. To manage humidity levels long-term, we installed a high-performance 85-pint dehumidifier. These upgrades worked together to create a dry, stable crawlspace environment, significantly reducing the risk of mold, moisture damage, and energy loss.
