A homeowner reached out to us after noticing that their hardwood floors were cupping, a common sign of excessive moisture beneath the home. They were also concerned about persistent high humidity, occasional standing water in the crawlspace, and aging HVAC ductwork that appeared to be contributing to the problem. The homeowner wanted a thorough inspection and a lasting solution to protect their flooring, improve air quality, and eliminate the underlying moisture issues.
To resolve the moisture issues causing the cupping hardwood floors, we began with a hydrogen peroxide treatment to eliminate any fungal growth and sanitize the crawlspace. We installed drainage matting to allow water to flow beneath the system and improve ground drainage, followed by a sump pump, basin, and discharge line to actively remove standing water and prevent future accumulation. A reinforced vapor barrier was then laid across the crawlspace floor to seal out ground moisture, and all vent openings were blocked to prevent humid outside air from entering. To control long-term humidity levels, we installed a high-efficiency dehumidifier. Additionally, we replaced the outdated HVAC components, including the supply and return ductwork as well as all register runs, to improve airflow efficiency and prevent further moisture buildup. This comprehensive solution helped protect the hardwood floors and restore a dry, stable environment beneath the home.
