Crawl Space Repair, Radon Remediation, & Home Renovations in Scottsboro, AL

In a close-knit community like Scottsboro, homeowners understand the importance of protecting their property from the ground up. With North Alabama’s humid climate and seasonal weather patterns, crawl spaces in Scottsboro are especially vulnerable to moisture buildup, mold growth, and structural deterioration - issues that can quietly impact your home over time.

Crawl Space Encapsulation & Repair in Scottsboro, AL

At Heartstrong Services, we provide expert crawl space encapsulation and repair solutions designed to eliminate moisture problems at their source. Whether your home is located near the scenic areas surrounding Lake Guntersville or within established neighborhoods throughout Jackson County, our systems are built to handle the environmental conditions unique to Scottsboro.

Because of the stack effect, up to 50% of the air inside your home originates from your crawl space. If that space contains excess moisture, mold, or contaminants, it can circulate throughout your home—leading to musty odors, poor indoor air quality, and increased strain on your HVAC system.

Our IICRC-certified technicians deliver comprehensive crawl space services, including:

  • Crawl space encapsulation with high-quality vapor barrier systems
  • Structural repairs and floor support stabilization
  • Interior drainage systems and sump pump installation
  • Dehumidification systems for consistent moisture control
  • Insulation upgrades to improve comfort and efficiency

Common signs of crawl space issues in Scottsboro homes include uneven floors, increased humidity indoors, and persistent musty smells. Our team identifies the root cause of these problems and provides long-term solutions that protect your home’s structure and indoor environment.

We also offer advanced mold remediation services such as soda blasting and antimicrobial treatments to eliminate mold and fungal growth. Additionally, our team can inspect and upgrade HVAC ductwork to ensure optimal performance in a properly conditioned crawl space.

For homeowners in Scottsboro, Heartstrong delivers reliable solutions that improve comfort, air quality, and long-term home performance.

Radon Remediation in Scottsboro, AL: A Critical Step for a Healthier Home

Radon Remediation Services

Radon gas is an invisible, odorless threat that can affect homes throughout Scottsboro. This naturally occurring radioactive gas forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and can seep into your home through crawl spaces and foundation openings—often without any warning signs.

Because many homes in Scottsboro are built over crawl spaces, they can be especially susceptible to radon infiltration. Once inside, radon gas can accumulate and circulate through your living space, creating long-term health risks if not properly addressed.

At Heartstrong, we provide professional radon testing and mitigation services to protect your home and your family. Our trained specialists use advanced equipment to detect radon levels and install proven systems that safely reduce concentrations within your home.

Health risks associated with radon exposure include:

  • Lung Cancer: According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
  • Respiratory Issues: Long-term exposure can worsen breathing conditions, particularly for children, seniors, and individuals with asthma.
  • Increased Risk for Children: Developing lungs and higher breathing rates make children more vulnerable to radon-related health effects.

Since radon cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted, testing is the only way to determine if your home is at risk. Our team provides accurate assessments, effective mitigation solutions, and peace of mind for homeowners throughout Scottsboro.

To address the concerns, we implemented a comprehensive repair and reinforcement plan to restore both structural integrity and system performance in the crawlspace. We installed PowerPost floor supports along with a steel beam to properly stabilize and support the weakened areas of the floor system. To further strengthen the structure, we doubled (scabbed) the existing floor joists where needed, ensuring long-term durability and load support. We also replaced the HVAC register run to improve airflow and eliminate any damaged or inefficient ductwork. Finally, we installed a new 1/3 HP sump pump to replace the non-functioning unit, restoring proper water management and ensuring the crawlspace remains dry and protected.

After our evaluation confirmed the open-porch exposure was allowing outside moisture to drive rot and weakening key framing components, we fixed both the cause and the structural damage it created. We started by treating affected areas with a Pro Cleaner hydrogen peroxide application to address microbial growth and help sanitize the crawlspace. To stabilize and reinforce the floor system, we installed PowerPost floor supports, doubled/scabbed compromised floor joists where reinforcement was needed, and added a steel beam to restore strength and proper load support. With the structure secured, we focused on long-term moisture control by blocking the foundation vents and installing a durable 9 mil vapor barrier to cut off ground vapor. We then added a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier to keep humidity in a safe range year-round, and finished with a custom-built PVC crawlspace door to create a tighter, more durable seal—helping prevent future moisture intrusion and protecting the repaired structure.

May 05, 2025 | Scottsboro, AL

To address the crawlspace conditions and deliver a long-term encapsulation solution, we began with a Pro Cleaner hydrogen peroxide treatment to clean and treat affected wood surfaces. Next, we installed a partial interior perimeter drainage pipe in the areas where water was most likely to enter and routed it to a new sump pump basin. Inside the basin, we set a 1/3 HP sump pump and connected a dedicated discharge line to move collected water safely away from the foundation. With water control in place, we sealed and conditioned the space using the Crawlspace Doctor Exclusive Encapsulation System, creating a durable barrier against ground moisture and outside air. To keep humidity consistently in check, we installed a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85-pint dehumidifier, and we finished by building a custom PVC crawlspace door to improve access while tightly sealing the entry point.

May 22, 2025 | Scottsboro, AL

To solve the moisture issues and protect the home long-term, we sealed and conditioned the crawlspace using our R-5 Insulated Encapsulation System with a heavy-duty 23 mil floor liner, creating a durable barrier against ground moisture and outside air. We paid close attention to sealing seams, edges, and penetrations to ensure the space was truly closed off and controlled. To keep humidity in a safe range year-round, we installed a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85 Pint Dehumidifier, providing active moisture removal even during the most humid months. We finished by building a custom PVC crawlspace door for a tight, long-lasting entry seal—helping the encapsulation system perform at its best and leaving the crawlspace clean, dry, and protected moving forward.

November 22, 2024 | Scottsboro, AL

To address the homeowner’s foundation concerns, we implemented a comprehensive solution to ensure long-term stability and moisture control. Our team installed a drainage pipe system to redirect water away from the foundation, paired with a sump pump basin and high-capacity sump pump to manage water accumulation effectively. A discharge line was added to channel water safely away from the property. To further mitigate moisture issues, we installed a dehumidifier, maintaining optimal humidity levels in the crawlspace. Structural support was reinforced with a power post floor support and the installation of a steel beam, providing enhanced stability to the home. Lastly, we custom-built a crawlspace door to ensure a secure and well-sealed entry point.

October 21, 2024 | Scottsboro, AL

To resolve the severe moisture and structural issues in the crawlspace, we began by installing a drainage pipe system to redirect groundwater and relieve hydrostatic pressure. We blocked all open vents to prevent humid air from entering the space and installed a 15 mil reinforced liner across the crawlspace floor to create a durable moisture barrier. A hydrogen peroxide treatment was applied to sanitize and eliminate fungal growth on the framing system. We then installed a high-efficiency dehumidifier to regulate humidity levels long-term. Structurally, we reinforced the framing by doubling floor joists, installing a new steel beam for added support, and adding PowerPost floor supports to correct sagging areas. Additionally, we replaced the damaged HVAC register run to ensure proper airflow. To manage ongoing water intrusion, we installed a sump pump system complete with a basin and discharge line. The project was completed with the construction and installation of a custom-built crawlspace door to secure the newly conditioned and stabilized space.
