Job completed for House Floors Saved From Rotting

Completion date: November 1, 2024

Location: Cullman, AL

Why did the customer contact us?

A homeowner contacted us after noticing significant unevenness in their floors and signs of moisture damage inside the home. Upon inspection, we found that the crawlspace had high humidity and clear evidence of water intrusion. More than half of the home’s floor system was affected by extreme fungal growth, which had developed due to prolonged exposure to moisture. The high humidity and fungal activity were actively rotting some joists and warping others, leading to noticeable elevation changes in the flooring throughout the house. The homeowner was looking for a comprehensive approach to eliminate the moisture issues and restore the structural integrity of their home.

Solutions provided:

To address the severe moisture and structural issues in the crawlspace, we began by soda blasting the affected framing to remove the extreme fungal growth without damaging the wood. Once cleaned, we installed PowerPost floor supports to stabilize areas where joists had weakened or shifted, and added a steel beam to provide additional structural reinforcement across critical spans. A 10 mil vapor barrier was laid across the crawlspace floor to seal out ground moisture and prevent future fungal growth. To maintain dry conditions and protect the structure long-term, we installed a high-efficiency dehumidifier to regulate humidity levels throughout the space.
