A homeowner contacted us with concerns about persistent moisture problems in their older home. They had begun noticing musty odors, uneven floors, and signs of possible water intrusion, especially in the crawlspace. Understanding that older houses often lack modern moisture control systems, the homeowner wanted a professional evaluation to determine the source of the problem and prevent further damage. Their main goal was to protect the integrity of their home while improving overall air quality and comfort.

Solutions provided:

To resolve the extensive moisture and structural issues in this older home, we began by removing the compromised insulation to fully assess the crawlspace conditions. Soda blasting was performed to eliminate fungal growth and sanitize the wood framing. We then installed a drainage pipe system along with a sump pump, basin, and discharge line to redirect and remove water buildup caused by hydrostatic pressure. All foundation vents were blocked to prevent humid air from entering, and a 15 mil vapor barrier was installed across the crawlspace floor to seal out ground moisture. Structurally, we installed a steel beam and PowerPost floor supports to reinforce weakened areas. In the bathroom—where floor issues were most severe—we performed a full demo, removing the toilet, vanity, tub, shower panels, flooring, and subfloor to access and install new joists and supports. Once the structural work was complete, we installed a new subfloor and vinyl plank flooring, redid the trim, hung and finished two sheets of Sheetrock, painted the walls and trim, and reinstalled the toilet and vanity. This comprehensive repair restored both the structural stability and functionality of the space while protecting the home from future moisture-related damage.
