A homeowner contacted us with concerns about persistent moisture issues beneath their home, particularly during the warmer, more humid months. During our inspection, we observed clear signs of hydrostatic pressure and standing water in the crawlspace, indicating groundwater intrusion. The environment showed signs of excessive humidity, which had contributed to moderate to heavy fungal growth on the framing system. Additionally, the duct lines displayed noticeable condensation stains, suggesting ongoing moisture buildup that could affect both air quality and HVAC efficiency. The homeowner was seeking a long-term solution to eliminate these problems and protect the integrity of their home.
To address the moisture and fungal issues in the crawlspace, we began by removing the old insulation, which had been compromised by prolonged exposure to humidity. We then applied a hydrogen peroxide treatment to the framing system to eliminate moderate to heavy fungal growth and sanitize the affected wood. After treating the space, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a durable moisture barrier to seal out ground moisture and create a controlled environment. To maintain consistent humidity levels and prevent future condensation and fungal growth, we installed a high-efficiency dehumidifier. This comprehensive approach created a clean, dry, and healthy space beneath the home.
