A homeowner recently contacted us after discovering standing water in their crawl space and noticing signs of moisture damage inside the home. They were concerned about water pooling around the foundation and suspected hydrostatic pressure was forcing moisture through the walls and floor of the crawl space. They reported musty odors, increased humidity, and worries about long-term damage to the structure and air quality. Because the water issues seemed to get worse after heavy rain, they reached out to us to evaluate the standing water problem, identify the source of the hydrostatic pressure, and recommend solutions to protect their home and foundation.
To solve the standing water and hydrostatic pressure issues, we began by treating the crawl space with our Pro Cleaner hydrogen peroxide solution to clean and sanitize surfaces affected by moisture and microbial growth. We then installed a full perimeter drainage pipe system to capture groundwater and direct it into a new sump pump basin, where a 1/3 HP sump pump now actively removes water from the crawl space through a dedicated discharge line away from the foundation. To create a long-term moisture barrier and protect the home, we installed the Crawlspace Doctor Exclusive Encapsulation System, sealing the crawl space from the damp earth and outside humidity. Because the prolonged moisture had compromised the HVAC ductwork, we replaced the HVAC supply ductwork, return ductwork, and register runs to ensure clean, efficient airflow throughout the home. Together, these upgrades eliminated standing water, relieved hydrostatic pressure around the foundation, and improved both the structural protection and indoor air quality of the home.
