A homeowner contacted us after discovering that the two sump pumps under his house had stopped working, which was allowing moisture to build up in the crawlspace. As the water-control system failed, humidity levels began to rise, creating conditions that can lead to ongoing moisture problems, musty air, and added stress on the crawlspace environment. He was also dealing with spanning-related concerns, making it clear that the issues were not isolated but part of a larger crawlspace system problem that needed a complete solution rather than a temporary fix.
We solved the problem by addressing the crawlspace as a complete system instead of treating each issue separately. First, we restored water control by installing a new 1/3 HP sump pump with a proper discharge line to move water safely away from the home. To bring the humidity under control, we installed a Sierra Watchdog NXT 120 dehumidifier to keep the crawlspace drier and more stable year-round. We also improved the enclosure itself by blocking the vents, installing a 15 mil vapor barrier, and building a custom PVC crawlspace door to help seal the space from outside air and moisture. Finally, to address the structural concerns, we installed a PowerPost floor support and a steel beam to strengthen and stabilize the floor system. Together, these repairs solved the water, humidity, and support issues with one coordinated plan.
