A homeowner contacted us seeking an estimate to address fungus and mildew that had developed in their crawlspace. They shared concerns about the visible growth and the potential impact it could have on the structural integrity of their home as well as indoor air quality. The homeowner wanted a professional evaluation to determine the extent of the issue and to receive recommendations for safely treating the affected areas, eliminating the moisture source, and preventing future fungal growth in the crawlspace.
To effectively resolve the fungus and mildew issue in the crawlspace, we installed a full-perimeter drainage system to capture and redirect groundwater away from the foundation. A sump pump basin paired with a 1/3 HP sump pump was added to efficiently remove collected water, along with a dedicated discharge line to carry it safely away from the home. We then encapsulated the crawlspace using an R-5 insulated system with a durable 15 mil floor liner, creating a sealed barrier against moisture intrusion. To maintain optimal humidity levels and prevent future microbial growth, we installed a Sierra Watchdog NXT 85 pint dehumidifier. Finally, we enhanced the integrity of the space by constructing and installing a custom PVC crawlspace door, ensuring a tight seal and long-term protection against outside air and moisture.
